Working within the confines of the existing 100yr old building fabric posed a series of spatial and structural challenges.
The result, is a dynamic and interactive intervention which occupies the existing courtyard space, with circulation to the first floor achieved via an external stair sleaved between the brick cloister archways.
The ground floor mimics the original daylight through the introduction of a circadian rhythm light, while the butterfly roof form is a sympathetic gesture allowing the original façade to maintain its social significance to the school community.
A robust project, that required the most delicate of touches, to ensure the original ivy vine remained intact and undisturbed, from start to finish.
