The students and staff at Kolbe Catholic College are now enjoying their new Resource Learning Centre and Staff Facilities. The College has redeveloped the heart of the campus with the replacement of the existing library and the construction of a double storey Staff and Student Resource Learning Centre. Bringing together the staff community room, the library and technology services, adaptable learning spaces and the Education Support Centre redefines the heart as a place that welcomes ALL learners – staff and students.
The artwork located on the external mesh celebrates the College’s founding spirit, containing the College’s motto, patron saint and the emblematic cherry blossom.
The cherry blossom is a symbol of faith and strength; the branches represent unity between the school community and the roots of the tree represent the College’s founder and Patron St Maximilian Kolbe. This artwork was created through close consultation with the client. It faces onto the College Green, being the central gathering space for staff and students, while figuratively connecting to the chapel.
The rhythm of the blade walls references the existing refurbished building while creating a modern addition. Additionally, the colour palette and materiality selected for the building also references the surrounding buildings namely the D&T building and the chapel.
This is an enriching learning environment that will enhance the growth of the College’s highly regarded programs.
