PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In an attempt to provide an environment which was flexible, innovative and inspiring with a diversity of spaces appropriate for the different types of interaction and gathering expected with Year 7s, the Year 7 Block was designed as a central meeting space bounded by classrooms on two sides, each classroom being separated from the meeting space with full height operable glass walls. Staff facilities were located at one end of the meeting space and toilet facilities were located at the other end. The resultant use of colour and texture to enhance individual spaces and the functional use of form give the building a sense of individuality whilst still fitting in with the overall theme of the College. The juxtaposition of the various spaces encourages student-teacher interaction in individual and multiple class arrangements and fosters a sense of community within an already well-established educational community.
