PROJECT DESCRIPTION

When EIW was commissioned to look at a masterplan for the site, The Montessori School community was housed in three aged buildings which had reached capacity as effective learning spaces. The Stage 1 redevelopment included the replacement of one of those lightweight buildings with two new classroom buildings. Stage 2 replaced an existing Pre-Primary and Administration building with a new double Pre-Primary building. The School's desire to base the redevelopment on environmentally responsible design with minimal disruption to both the bushland and the schools' occupants during the construction period were of utmost importance. The Montessori teaching philosophy heavily dictated the design of the classroom buildings, as a standard teaching block would not suit the school's pedagogical foundations. The Montessori School redevelopment has enabled the school community to create buildings that reflect their philosophical beliefs and particular teaching methods, without compromising comfort, function or cost.
